Before you begin your first lesson you should visit www.direct.gov.uk or phone the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) on 0300 790 6801 to get the full legal requirements, but in short you will need:

• Both parts of your provisional licence for a car (photo card and paper). The photo card proves who you are and the paper section tells me about categories of vehicle you are allowed to drive and also if you are disqualified from driving.
• To be able to see a number plate (with glasses if you normally use them) at a distance of 20.5 metres.
• You will also need to study for and take your theory test, although this test can be completed at any time before your practical test.
